Artifact:
Reflection:
Class blogs, class websites, Twitter feeds, and other Web 2.0 tools and online projects.
This artifact was completed to help me successfully utilize digital communication effectively with students and colleagues. For this project, I created a workshop over Class Dojo to teach the teachers at my school how to use Class Dojo to communicate with parents and students. Through the completion of this artifact, teachers were able to implement Class Dojo in the classroom to allow students to use Class Dojo to communicate with their peers and teachers.
Through the development of creating this workshop, I had the opportunity to collaborate with some colleagues concerning using Web 2.0 tools to communicate with students and parents. This experience would be engaging to students as they enjoy Class Dojo and creating their avatars. For this workshop to be a success, I had to research Class Dojo and its funding prices. During my research, I learned that Class Dojo is free. With this in mind, during my presentation, I explained to the teachers that Class Dojo is a free online educational app, which assists in building amazing classroom and school communities. I explained that Class Dojo allows teachers to use an online tool to provide students with feedback and help time monitor their behavior. Also, I included that Class Dojo has translations in 35 additional languages. As this helps meet the needs of English Language Learners and their families.
Additionally, I provided resources that include steps to setup Class Dojo accounts for educators, students, and parents. During the workshop, I played video tutorials of setting up accounts. I also created a pot-workshop survey to measure the effectiveness of the workshop and the likelihood that teachers would implement this free Web 2.0 tool in their classrooms to promote student engagement.
The design process of this field experience helped me understand the importance of having a free online educational app that assists in classroom management and promote student engagement. I learned through the completion of this artifact that I can share classroom activities and anchor charts with my classes and parents. I learned that when I message parents, I can view if the parent has read the message, which is a teacher, only perk. I can also send reminders for pertinent due dates for students and parents. I learned that this Class Dojo app would help me address the communication standards by communicating with students, parents, and stakeholders via the app. Most importantly, I learned that this is a safe site for teachers to use with their students and is approved to use for my district, as I learned that a lot of teachers use Class Dojo.
Although this learning experience cannot be assessed, it has a significant impact on the communication within the learning community. I believe that Class Dojo promotes student engagement and assist in classroom management skills as it helps promote positive behavior.
