During this course, I learned three essential things that are vital to my professional practice. Firstly, I learned about Data teams and the effectiveness of having a data team to analyze data for student academic success and to work toward the goals set in the school improvement plan. Secondly, I learned how to analyze student data, in-depth viewing student subgroups, achievement gaps, and developing interventions to close those gaps. Lastly, I learned how to create a data coach action plan which allows the data coach to create a clear action plan which includes multiple goals and purposes to work toward achieving with a data team and teachers that will help improve the overall school climate, progress, and assessment scores.
Throughout this course, I completed a series of field experiences. The most valuable field experience to me what creating the Data Overview because I had the opportunity to analyze the 8th-grade math students Georgia Milestones End of Grade assessment in-depth, comparing the school data to the district and the state. While completing the Data Overview, I was learned about the achievement gaps and how different subgroups perform by percentages. I also compared the data of the 8th-grade math assessment over the past three years, seeing how the data has fluctuated. The Data Overview was the most valuable field experience to me because without completing this assignment I would not know how to analyze student data in-depth and compare scores to gain an understanding as to why the scores are changing and develop strategies and a plan to improve scores.
I plan to continue applying what I have learned in this course about student data and data teams, by continuing to break down student data by subgroups and comparing student data over three years. The challenges I anticipate as I continue to implement these ideas in my school is teacher buy-in. I predict that not all teachers will be on board with having a data team analyze their student data and provide them with suggestions as to how they can help improve student scores and academic achievement.
