GAPSS Review/Current Reality
The GAPSS and Current Reality was completed to evaluate the effectiveness of the school professional learning communities to improve teaching and learning. Through the implementation of this project, I explained how the school professional learning aligns with the professional learning standards and provide recommendations to improve in each standard area.
Through the development of this GAPSS Review and Current Reality artifact, I had the opportunity to explain and provide evidence of how my school aligned with the professional learning standards and also offer recommendations for improvement. I reflected on how professional learning for my school aligns with the standards to help deepen teacher content knowledge and improve teaching and learning. I also provided goals in which my school could meet to enhance its overall effectiveness. However, a few goals for my school improvement are to enhance students learning, improve behavior, reduce referrals, and keep students in class as much as possible.
The design process of this GAPSS and Current Reality artifact helped me understand what it truly means to design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills, and increasing student learning. I also learned how to provide evidence and make efficient recommendations for improvements in professional learning that would improve teaching practices within my school. Additionally, I learned to survey teachers to find out what specific needs and topics they would like to see covered in PLCs to assist them in their classroom and professional practices.
Although the development and design process of this artifact cannot be assessed, it had a significant impact on teacher professional practices and student learning. The impact of professional learning on teacher practice and student learning is evaluated by student data and teacher evaluations. As improvements are shown in teacher’s practices that have been addressed in professional learning is evidence that what has been discussed during PLCs have translated into their professional practices.
