Hi, Amy! Thank you for your feedback! The students worked in pairs to complete this learning task. The learning task is one task; it is not two that were combined. There were two situations within the learning task which I discussed and then I included the extension part of the task for differentiation and for more advanced students as you stated. I apologize if I did not explain this clearly. However, to answer your questions concerning assigning students two peers to respond to, thanks for the suggestion, I will modify that in my lesson plan for next year. With class presentations, my classes are 90 minutes, so I have plenty of time for presentations, and my class cap size is small, I have 16 seventh grade students. I appreciate your suggestion of allowing students to work in groups. However, I did have the students to work in pairs, as that works for my students. When groups become more than three students, they tend to get off-task, or some of the students are pulling more "weight" than others, so the pairs worked well. However, I agree with the rubrics allowing students to prepare for upcoming grade levels where they may be used more frequently. I use rubrics as well but decided to use a checklist for this learning task. Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I will consider all recommendations! I hope I answered all of your questions.
