Before this course, I would facilitate professional learning communities and once completed I would not follow up with the participants. Now, I understand after completing the Loti Questionnaire and Adopter Survey assignments the importance of creating well thought-out and appropriate questions that will get valuable feedback and data of evaluating the professional learnings; and use this information to make follow-up plans that would improve the professional developments. This course has provided me with growth in developing and implementing professional learning plans. However, I would not have this knowledge, skills, and opportunity to grow without first, completing the one-hour technology workshop. Completion of the workshop field experience has helped me improve my practice and presentation skills when facilitating and presenting during professional learning and also, other presentation opportunities that I may encounter in the future. I have learned how to create and facilitate meetings and workshops that are centered around using an online digital tool effectively and successfully.
Next, this course has helped me demonstrate and become more of a teacher leader by using what I have learned to coach and mentor my colleagues. The teacher I coached is a veteran teacher that was willing and excited to collaborate with me to implement technology resources in the classroom for student learning. I used the instructional technology coach readings and assignments during this class to help me with my coaching assignment. While I was reading the various ways to approach coaching, I read about peer coaching approach, which it instantly intrigued me. I decided that the best approach for me and my colleague would be peer coaching.
This class has provided me with more of an insight into instructional technology coaching and how to be effective when in a leadership and coaching position to benefit myself, teachers, and students. One of my goals as I am coaching a colleague is to be of assistance and collaborate to help produce results that will improve teaching and learning. I view peer coaching as an approach and an opportunity to assist and collaborate with my colleague. My goal is not to approach my colleague as if I am telling the colleague what to do, what to improve on and what to integrate into the classroom. I believe that the peer coaching approach also helps the colleague become comfortable and willing to work with me because it sets a tone as collaborating teachers, instead of someone that will come in and tell them how to do their jobs. However, I need to continue to improve my coaching and presentation skills, and also learn how to provide constructive criticism (feedback) when needed instead me feeling as if I am judging others. The coaching skills and activities have and will continue to help me improve in providing constructive feedback.
Overall, this course has and will continue to help me complete my Capstone project because I will complete that assignment by completing a series of professional developments (workshops) for teachers and staff on how to use and implement Google Suites in the classroom for assessments to engage and increase student learning.
