Miranda’s Blog Post on Final Thoughts
Since beginning the Instructional Technology Specialist program at Kennesaw State University, I have grown so much when it relates to technology and student learning. I have gained a deeper understanding during this class of the importance of using digital tools and resources to enhance student learning. There are so many technology resources that I have learned throughout this class. I especially enjoyed learning about FlipGrid and creating a FlipGrid to introduce myself to others for this course. I would like to implement FlipGrid in my classroom.
Next, all of the Web 2.0 tools that I have learned about during this class has expanded my knowledge of developing and planning authentic lessons that integrate technology within to create engaging learning experiences. It has been a joy learning about these digital tools as I can assist my students with learning how to use Web 2.0 tools to enhance their learning and achieve academically. I also enjoyed using some of the Web 2.0 tools I learned about during this course to allow students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding while using their creativity and critical thinking skills.
Before becoming a teacher, I often thought of the differentiation of modifying students work. It was not until I became a teacher that I truly learned the meaning of differentiation and that it comes in many forms. Since I began this class, I have gained a deeper understanding of differentiation and how to use technology to differentiate instruction. I learned many types of add-ins and extensions to use on the computer to meet student’s diverse needs.
Lastly, after learning about the digital divide and digital equity I understand the importance of advocating for students to receive digital equity no matter what their backgrounds are, their family incomes are, and it does not matter their gender. All students should be awarded an equal opportunity to learn. The divide with digital equity is detrimental to students learning. This class has helped me to reflect on the technology available to my students. My school is one-to-one Chromebooks, and although not all students have access to internet and technology devices at home; they have digital equity at school. I have learned how to plan, develop, create, and implement technology-enhanced lessons that students can complete within adequate timing within the classroom, to diminish the anxiety and stress of not completing assignments promptly due to no internet access and no technology devices at home.
Overall, this class has helped me become more of a technology leader and facilitator. I will continue to learn research-based practices related to technology to deepen my learning and pedagogical skills to enhance student learning. Also, I will continue to use an online and blended learning experience approach within my learning environment; as I believe, this class has helped me learn new strategies to use to create a meaningful, authentic, engaging learning experience that is student-centered for student’s success.
